A short flight from Arusha, Zanzibar is the classic place to wind down after the dust of the game drives. Its coast is lined with white-sand beaches and turquoise water, with traditional dhows sailing out at sunset.
Away from the beach, Stone Town — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is a maze of narrow streets, carved wooden doors and markets that tell the island's long history as a trading port. Spice farms, coral reefs for snorkelling and Jozani Forest, home of the rare red colobus monkey, are all within easy reach.
