Tarangire is known as Tanzania's elephant paradise. It has one of the highest concentrations of elephants in Africa, and during the dry season its river draws thousands of animals in from the surrounding country, so the park grows busier just as the land outside turns brown.
Giant baobab trees give Tarangire a look of its own. Watch for seasonal tree-climbing pythons, lions and leopards — the area was first set aside as a hunting block for big cats in the colonial era.
